The Rainbow pub has a long legacy and tradition of defiant independence hosting some of the most talked about events and parties in Birmingham over the last 10 years.
The addition of the Rainbow Warehouse, 100yds further up Adderley Street, earlier this year has only served to enhance that reputation as promoters have eagerly sought to utilise a space so unique in the UK: the raw authenticity of a Victorian warehouse combining with an outside area set under a 19th century viaduct that is transformed into a beach in the summer and Garden in the winter.
The Rainbow: This old victorian boozer oozes character and charm with an ability to capture and hold any crowd. The 2 rooms moving away from the mainstream sound infavour of innovative, eclectic and diverse entertainment.
The Rainbow's main feature is the courtyard. An alfresco urban disturbance set against a backdrop of industrial decay, graffiti and regeneration. It's a venue for all seasons with it's retractable roof and heating for the winter months.
The Rainbow courtyard clearly stands out as a unique space and has enjoyed accolades from The Guardian, Fused Magazine, Vice and The Metro and The Indapendant.
The Rainbow hasn't doesn't have to rely on 'big name dj's' but large social groups. Thats where the party is at. BELOW, GLAS, BIGGER THAN BARRY, HOTT DATE, NAKED LUNCH, CUSTOM MADE, UP2NO GOOD, CRUNCH, WOBBLE are fantastic examples of this.
Of course big players do visit The Rainbow. Derrick Carter, Terry Farley, Sebo K, Ivan Smagghe, The Prodigy (Live) Mixmaster Morris, The Nextmen, Erol Alkan, Chromeo, Datarock, Jamie Jones, Damian Lazarus, Joss Stone (Live) Josh Wink, Nick Holloway, Finley Quaye, 808 State, Andrew Weatherall , DJ Q-Bert, Dj Switch ... the list goes on.
It's important to find the balance.
The Rainbow Warehouse: The Rainbow Warehouse is at the forefront of Birmingham's unique cutting edge independent nightscene.
A large Victorian warehouse with original cast iron features has been transformed into a unique space which combines the authentic rawness of an industrial space with artistic innovative flourishes: truly stunning artwork from the undisputed champions of Birmingham's graffiti wars adorn all spare walls.
The main room is vast and served by a huge bar, and a second room provides the sanctuary of a chill out space.
The overall effect is to create an atmosphere that combines an exciting frisson of danger that with a sense of innovative zeal. Little wonder it was chosen over all venues in the UK as a warm up gig for The Prodigy in the Summer.
However that is only part of it...
Venture outside and a huge courtyard area incorporates the natural cover of an old brick railway arch. The stark beauty of the brick in this cavernous area is the backdrop to what is a tropical beach landscape in summer (complete with sand and palm trees), and a garden of Eden in the autumn/Winter.
Throughout this summer it has been host to parties and events whose reputation have stretched far beyond the Midlands.
