AND THIS YEAR’S HEADLINER IS...
ORBITAL
When Orbital played a headline set at Glastonbury in 1994 they changed the face of dance music forever. Wearing their trademark head-mounted torches behind banks of equipment, the Hartnoll brothers mixed and sequenced their tracks on the fly, helping to bring dance music to the masses. Having hung up their glasses in 2004, the techno timelords are back where they belong and it’s a real privilege to have them as this year’s official Get Loaded in the Park headliners. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their classic debut single ‘Chime’ – one of the greatest dance records of all time and with the release of new album ‘Orbital20’, the iconic duo will be playing their only London Festival appearance of 2009 in the darkness on the Get Loaded Main Stage. Bringing the festival to its climatic finale, Orbital return with a spectacular new audio/visual show promising wall-to-wall anthems all the way. Contemporaries of the Chemical Brothers and Underworld, Orbital enjoyed a dazzling 15-year stint before bowing out gracefully four years ago. Raised in suburban Sevenoaks, near the M25 orbital motorway - which inspired their name, Paul & Phil began honing their unique brand of home-grown electro long before the acid house boom gave British pop a much-needed kick up its baggy trousers. Between 1989 and 2004, Orbital released a string of addictive, eclectic singles including ‘Chime’, ‘Style’, ‘Belfast’, ‘The Box’ and ‘Satan’. Many became evergreen club anthems; some even became Top 3 hits. During their seven-album career, Orbital developed an enviable live reputation, playing knockout mega-shows to huge crowds from Glastonbury to Woodstock to the Royal Albert Hall. Q magazine rated their 1994 Glasto show as one of “Top 50 Gigs of all Time” and later included Orbital in their list of “50 Bands to see before you die”. Well now it’s your chance. Improvised, innovative and live and direct on Clapham Common this summer... get ready for a legendary comeback!
“We’re really excited to be playing at Get Loaded. It should be a fantastic way to end the summer festival season and we’ve heard some great reports from friends who have been. It’s brilliant to be playing a big outdoor show in London.” (Paul Hartnoll, Orbital)
